Example: Exploring a watershed
Satellite map of the Chesapeake Bay watershed, marking the area with the highest nitrogen load in 2025 in each state: New York 0.14 million kg, Pennsylvania 0.51 million kg, Maryland 0.54 million kg, West Virginia 0.12 million kg, Washington DC 1.44 million kg, Delaware 0.32 million kg and Virginia 0.70 million kg. Opens a larger view.

You ask: “Where was the highest nitrogen load in 2025 in each State of the Chesapeake Bay region?”

Geo-bAI brings together relevant data, maps the findings, and shows the supporting evidence for further review.

Simple by design

What is Geo-bAI?

“Geo” means place. “AI” means artificial intelligence. Put them together and you have a tool that helps answer questions about the world around us, using maps, data, and analysis.

A new generation of federal environmental datasets is making decades of maps, reviews, and geographic records easier to search and use. One example is the U.S. Department of Energy’s NEPATEC 3.0 release. Geo-bAI™ is being developed to help people connect information like this with practical questions about land, water, and infrastructure, while keeping sources and professional review in view.

  1. Step 1: Choose a place

Name a location, find an area on the map, or use an approved project boundary.

  2. Step 2: Ask a question

Type what you want to know. Geo-bAI finds relevant information and works through the analysis.

  3. Step 3: Review the evidence

See maps and findings, inspect sources and steps, and download the work for further review.

Applied AI solutions in practice

Start with a real question.

Geo-bAI™ combines BAI Group’s 40 years of civil and environmental engineering experience with applied AI and geospatial technology to develop practical solutions with municipalities, utilities, and technology partners.

Solution example

Site Screening & Constraint Analysis

What Geo-bAI does

Identifies suitable infrastructure locations by mapping environmental constraints and limitations.

Why it matters

Helps municipalities, developers, and engineering teams evaluate opportunities and constraints early to focus time and resources on the most promising locations.

Example question

“Screen this region/township for utility-scale solar site suitability. Check for at least 10ha size patches with steep slopes, wetlands, flood zones, setbacks, protected habitat, and access to the electrical grid. Show areas with the fewest constraints.”

Solution example

Environmental Change Monitoring

What Geo-bAI does

Tracks how ecosystems change over time from natural processes or human impacts.

Why it matters

Helps environmental agencies, municipalities, and resilience authorities understand where change is occurring so they can prioritize restoration, resilience planning, shoreline management or field investigation.

Example question

“Compare this coastal area between 2024 and 2026. Show locations of potential marsh loss, open water expansion, and identify areas that need field review.”

Solution example

Multi-Criteria Suitability Assessment

What Geo-bAI does

Overlays multiple spatial datasets with weighted scoring to resolve complex, competing spatial problems.

Why it matters

Helps municipalities, landowners, and planning teams evaluate development opportunities while protecting critical resources such as groundwater recharge zones.

Example question

“Screen this area for groundwater recharge zones using appropriate datasets and development constraints. Show where recharge potential is highest.”

These are existing Geo-bAI workflows. Results depend on the datasets, location and analytical assumptions.
Professional review and field verification may still be needed.

Spring Creek preliminary screening*

Explore our Spring Creek preliminary screening and companion transparency report to see how AI-assisted geospatial analysis supports early environmental investigations, with documented sources, methods, and limitations.

Written for policymakers, municipal leaders, and internal teams, to help inform early decisions before detailed hydrologic modeling or field studies.

* The analysis was run in Geo-bAI, and its results were then post-processed into these templated reports.

Active pilots

Engaging with Infrastructure Intelligence

Geo-bAI pilots are underway with leading technology companies and small municipalities, exploring AI applications in environmental monitoring and wastewater treatment.

Continuous Methane Monitoring

Twenty solar-powered methane sensors are supporting a pilot project at a municipal landfill in Pennsylvania. Early evaluations are exploring how Geo-bAI, our infrastructure intelligence platform, can complement this monitoring technology by helping operators investigate methane patterns, infrastructure conditions, and operational trends through natural-language questions and data analysis.

Example question

“How did methane readings change during this period, and what else was happening?”

Wastewater Digital Twin

A municipal wastewater treatment digital twin is the focus of a second pilot project. Early evaluations are exploring how Geo-bAI, our infrastructure intelligence platform, can complement the digital twin technology by enabling operators to ask questions about model results, investigate treatment processes, and better understand operational trends.

Example question

“What does the model show about ammonia over this operating cycle?”

These pilots are ongoing and subject to engineering validation.

A result you can inspect

Don’t just take AI’s word for it.

Geo-bAI is designed to make its work visible. Its verification process checks whether analytical results can be reproduced and flags questions that need human judgment.

  • Know where information came from

Inspect supporting sources, inputs, and assumptions.

  • Review how the result was produced

See analysis steps and examine supporting work, rather than relying on a single answer.

  • Keep the work

Download a workspace containing relevant files, outputs, and session history for independent review.

  • People remain in charge

Engineering and operational decisions still require qualified human review.

What you can take away

Your downloadable workspace

Not just a summary. A record of the work you can inspect and share with your team.

  • Maps and analytical outputs
  • Data used and supporting files
  • Analysis code and steps
  • Questions and session history

Contents depend on the analysis and available sources. Verification reduces risk; it does not guarantee that every finding is correct.

Good to know

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to know GIS or AI?

No. Ask questions in ordinary language. A GIS specialist or engineer may still be needed to review complex analysis.

Is Geo-bAI a chatbot?

It’s more than a text-answer tool. You type a question, and it can find data, run analysis, display map layers, and produce downloadable work. It is a text-based interface, not a voice conversation.

Can Geo-bAI use our organization’s data?

Dedicated partner hubs can be configured with approved project information. New datasets and integrations require review and setup; not every format or system is connected automatically.

Can I rely on a result for a regulatory or engineering decision?

Geo-bAI supports investigation and creates reviewable draft findings. Qualified professionals must verify results before relying on them for regulatory, safety, or operational decisions.
